Malmö: Islamic Center invites churches to celebrate National Day together
The Swedish Church and Islamic Center in Malmö will celebrate the National Day (today) together in association with the center's mosque.

"We are very glad for the invitation and it will be at the same time a manifestation of our good cooperation," says Ann Aldén, vicar in the Västra Skrävlinge parish to Skånska Dagbladet.

The Västra Skrävlinge parish and the Islamic Center are next to each other and have cooperated together for a long while. The invitation to the National Day celebration was to all parishes of the Swedish Church in Malmö. Ann Aldén thinks that all parishes will participate in the joint celebration.

"That the National Day is not a religious holiday makes it suitable to celebrate together," she thinks.

She says that cooperation with the Islamic Center led to anonymous phone calls and negative responses in the blogosphere.

Ann Aldén emphasizes though that there weren't direct threats, but rather expressed dissatisfaction that the Swedish Church is cooperating with Muslims.

"This makes our joint National Day celebration even more important," says Ann Aldén.
